MEET THE Chair of Operations

Karen Herrera

As an immigrant born in Mexico and of Cuban roots, I am proud, yet humbled to have the opportunity to study at the University of Pennsylvania and represent an important part of my identity through the Latinx Coalition.

I am still figuring out what I want to major and potentially minor in, but I am drawn to media, communications, and economics. In the long term, I would love to go to law school and specifically focus on intellectual property and copyright law.

I have always been drawn to the roles of mentorship and platforms that allow me to share my story in order to inspire students of similar background or situation to overcome their challenges. Currently, I volunteer at West Philadelphia High School and partake in different ways, through the LC and beyond, in speaking to prospective students and sharing my experiences at Penn and through the college process. I am also part of the Student Committee on Undergraduate Education (SCUE), which is an organization under Penn Student Government that focuses on lobbying for educational change on Penn’s campus. I am a project chair for SCUE and I am particularly co-chairing a project that is focusing on improving access to student financial services on campus.
